The rain drizzled down the window pane, forming tiny rainbows as it pooled on the pavement below. The sky was a magnificent grey-purple, with swirling white clouds punctuated by the summer monsoon storm. Although it was stormy, the day couldn't have been more beautiful. Amber and her four bridesmaids, her flower girl, a handful of other friends and her mom were all getting ready at a mansion near Hermosa Cliffs, Colorado. The women helped each other with their hair and makeup, drank mimosas and blackberries, danced over piles of dresses, shoes and jewelry to country tunes in the background and wrote and re-wrote their speeches. Amber was vibrant and cheerful, not at all fazed by the rain. After her mother and bridemaids helped her wiggle into a gorgeous white gown, it was time for Amber and Andy's first look.
We drove in the rain to Haviland lake where we met Andy at the dock. The storm miraculously lifted as we pulled into the soggy parking spots. Andy was stationed at the dock staring out over the lake. Amber crept behind him, giggling and teary eyed as she turned her prince around to see her in her gown for the first time. Also teary eyed, he smiled and embraced his bride. The couple left in a raft where they rowed across the lake to have a few moments alone. Afterwards, we migrated to Chris Park where 270 guests already had their seats facing a beautiful alter made of aspen branches and purple flowers. Amber and Andy pronounced their vows to each other under the pines. The crowd was weeping with joy as the happy couple exited the ceremony amidst a shower of rose petals. The crowd formed a tunnel of sparklers as Amber and Andy rode off on their motorcycles.
Dinner was served by a local BBQ joint called Serious Texas. Toasts lasted through dinner keeping the crowd bowled over in laughter and emotion as each storyteller took their turn at the mike. The first dance began and Amber and Andy waltzed across the floor as husband and wife...until the music suddenly stopped. Amber and Andy halted, turned, the music started again, but this time to a different song and Amber and Andy broke into a hilarious choreographed dance that changed every second to incorporate a new song and dance. The crowd was in a roar, cheersing and laughing, half in disbelief. When the dance finally ended, half the room had joined them on the dance floor and the party was in full swing. The night crept on and Amber and Andy danced among their friends and family until the wee hours of the morning, celebrating their love, friendship, adventure and companionship.
